Our standard IGU (insulated glass unit) is 1/2” overall thickness, and is comprised of a 1/8” sheet of Cardinal LoE2-272, a 1/4” dark bronze spacer, and a clear sheet of 1/8” annealed glass. The unit is filled with Argon gas for added insulation. The U-Factor of the unit is 0.32, meaning is is approximately 74% more efficient then single pane glass, and 54% more efficient than clear, double pane glass (no LowE coating).
Larger units for picture windows have slightly different dimensions and are manufactured to industry specifications for strength and durability. The units have a 10 year warranty on the seal, and all labor is warranted for 1 year.
Obscure IGU’s are available for locations where privacy is a factor, like entry doors, sidelights, and bathrooms. The two glass products that are most commonly used in these settings are Satin Etch (frosted), and Cross Reed. Versions of both of these obscure glass patterns were produced and installed in windows prior to the 1950’s, and unlike many of today’s obscure glass patterns, they are aesthetically appropriate for historic settings.
